Children's books hold a piece of my heart. They are a beautifully accessible way for readers of all ages to be inspired. There are millions of children's books in the world and just a small percentage receive wide recognition. Searching for just the right book can be daunting and isolating. Every child AND adult deserves to see themselves, their families, their cultural experiences, their abilities, and their hard questions depicted in the pages of books. In 2019, my son, Rylan, and I published a book about living in his brain with Autism and Tourettes. "If I Squeeze Your Head I'm Sorry" is a delightful and insightful blend of his words and art as they relate to his everyday experiences in the world. This book was invaluable therapy for both Rylan and me and allowed so many people to understand him better and opened doors for other neurodiverse readers to feel understood. For the past decade, I've done writing and strategic marketing consulting and disability and adoption-focused advocacy work. This followed a 15-year non-profit marketing and public relations career that I ultimately left in order to make space to advocate as a parent to neurodiverse children. Marvelous Me books focuses our efforts on hard-to-find, difficult-to-talk-about, and inclusive titles that meet specific needs. With each client, we send a questionnaire, allowing us insight into the specific needs and experiences of the readers involved. Next, we curate a list of 101 titles that speak directly to each client's responses.
